Our Research Philosophy
At GeoMarine Biotechnologies, research is not merely an activity — it is our identity. As India's first Marine Biotechnology company, we have consistently pushed the frontiers of what is known and possible in marine science, aquaculture biotechnology, and industrial microbiology.
Our research philosophy is firmly application-oriented: every project we undertake aims at a real-world outcome — a better product, a cleaner process, a healthier ecosystem, or a stronger industry. Our founder, Dr. Charles, brings international credibility to our research — as a Star Gold Solver at IdeaConnection, a Global Energy Storage Challenge finalist at London Business School (2011), and a resource person for IIT Madras, Anna University, and other leading institutions.
Research Focus Areas
Marine Biotechnology
Exploration and utilisation of marine organisms and their bioactive compounds for industrial, pharmaceutical, and nutritional applications. Includes luciferase production and value-added products from marine waste.
Aquaculture Microbiology
Development of microbial solutions for aquaculture — from probiotic formulations for shrimp and fish to pond management microorganisms. Covers hatchery, grow-out, and pond soil remediation.
Industrial Microbiology
Research into microbial processes for industrial applications including enzyme production, fermentation optimisation, bioprocess development, and microbial strain improvement.
Herbal & Natural Product Research
Investigation of herbal and plant-derived compounds for use in aquaculture sanitizers, veterinary health products, and human nutraceuticals. Emphasis on safe, natural alternatives to synthetic chemicals.
Food Biotechnology & Nutraceuticals
An expanding area of research focusing on functional foods, seaweed-derived nutraceuticals, and bioactive compounds for human health. Targeting commercialisation in the near future.
Environmental Biotechnology
Research into biological solutions for environmental challenges — including effluent treatment, bioremediation of aquaculture pond sediments, and marine waste valorisation.

Testing of biotechnology products including probiotics, sanitizers, and feed additives for efficacy, safety, and regulatory compliance prior to commercialisation.
